Michael has led classes throughout Greater Boston and has witnessed firsthand the many benefits dancing provides for the “over-55” community. Dance encourages good posture, offers low-impact, cardiovascular exercise and connects people through the skills of leading and following. Most importantly, it’s fun!

From 1910 to the 1950s, dance bands left an indelible mark on American culture. Well-known band-leaders developed their “signature songs” and hired singers emerged as superstars in their own right. Jack Craig will lead a spirited singalong of the most prominent songs to come out of the 1920s big band era.

Wheaton College Professor Jason Giannetti will open his philosophy lecture with a comprehensive survey of Thales and the pre-Socratics, and will move on to Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. In considering their teachings, he will focus on how each defined the One and the Many, a central topic for the early western philosophers.

Secretary of State Series with Gary Hylander: John Hay (YH)

John Hay served as Secretary of State with Presidents William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. During his tenure, Secretary Hay addressed territorial issues that arose following the Spanish-American War and the acquisition of the Panama Canal Zone. However, his most important diplomatic achievement was opening the door for trade and commercial relations with China.
