Beethoven Sonata Series with Dr. Brady Millican (YH)

Dr. Brady Millican is Artist-In-Residence at Eastern Nazarene College, where he has been a member of the music faculty since 1979. His distinguished performing career includes two appearances at the White House; solo and chamber recitals at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Harvard’s Sanders Theater; performances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra; and feature broadcasts on NPR. Dr. Millican will branch out in this performance to include compositions by Mendelssohn, Debussy and Chopin as well as Beethoven.

“A Blundering Generation” Lecture Series with Gary Hylander: Lincoln, Lincoln, Lincoln! (YP)

During the election of 1860, the Democratic Party split into warring factions. Lincoln maintained that, if elected president, he had no intention of abolishing the “peculiar institution.” Rather, the Republican Party contended that as long as slavery was not allowed to expand beyond the boundaries of the fifteen slave states, slavery would eventually “wither on the vine.” However, shortly after his election, seven slave states led by South Carolina seceded from the Union and created the Confederate States of America.
